Barbara Egger Park

OVERGROWN JEWEL KISSED AWAKE

The Barbara Egger Park in Millstatt am See played an important role in the history of the town from the very beginning - back in the days of the Austrian monarchy. From the sixties until the turn of the millennium, it was also a fixed star in the festive mood of guests and locals every year.

The park, which towers above Millstatt, is a wonderful vantage point. From there, you can look out over Lake Millstatt as far as Seeboden and the village, including the monastery building.

AFTER 20 YEARS...

...after a long slumber and several unsuccessful initiatives, it has finally been reawakened. With its old trees, it already has a high quality of stay. This project not only made the observation tower accessible again, but also returned the entire area to the population as a local recreation area.

The revitalization of the park, which is owned by the Nachbarschaft agricultural community, makes a significant contribution to the character of the townscape and will thus become an eye-catcher in the western part of the historic town center of Millstatt am See.

THE PARK AS A MEETING PLACE

Demographic change must be used as a challenge and an opportunity. Millstatt is a rural community with 3,448 inhabitants, which is characterized by an active community life and lively cohesion. In addition to small-scale businesses and agriculture, tourism is the main economic factor, which is why it was all the more important to preserve this special place for the population and make it accessible all year round. The benches in the area offer plenty of places to rest; the lighting also makes it possible to take a walk at night.

The central meeting point is on the plateau, which is a wonderful place to sit under the shade of the trees. It extends to the south-facing wall and the tower forms the historical centerpiece. There are also numerous possibilities for use, such as civil weddings, readings, musical performances (choir singing, tower winds) or theater performances.

EVENTS AND EXCURSIONS

However, the wine festival of the Citizens' Guard or the Advent market of the Citizens' Women can also be organized there, as well as a "Slow Food Culinary Table" as part of the autumnal dining offer at Lake Millstatt.

Furthermore, yoga courses, a small library and the site as a location for various exhibition objects within the framework of mille statue/ millstART are conceivable.

The Barbara Egger Park nature arena with its historic observation tower is a year-round meeting place for all generations: Families with children, young people and senior citizens alike. The park also serves as an important tourist infrastructure and can be seen as an extension of the lakeside promenade.

The implementation of the project "Verwildertes Juwel wachgeküsst" is being funded as part of the Austrian Program for Rural Development - project type 19.2.1. The funding amount of € 80,000.00 is made up of federal, state and European Union funds.
